• As well as being an actress, Hedy was also a scientist and inventor, and she co-invented an early form of spread spectrum communications technology, which is now used as the basis for WiFi and the technology used in some cordless telephones.
• Hedy is short for Hedwig
• Her first husband was extremely controlling and was also a part-Jewish Nazi sympathiser who entertained both Mussolini and Hitler at his grand parties in Vienna. In 1937 Hedy hired a maid who resembled herself, drugged the maid and stole her uniform as a disguise, then fled Austria for Paris to escape and divorce him.
• On one occasion when running away from her fascist first husband, she hid in a brothel and when her husband came to search the place, a man entered the room and she had sex with him so she could remain hidden.
• She was arrested for shoplifting twice, in 1965 and 1991 (she was 75).
